UEFA prepares criminal complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino
UEFA is preparing a criminal complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Swiss courts, alleging criminal mismanagement under Article 158 of the Swiss Criminal Code. The legal action stems from a failed proposal, known as FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which sought to sell a 20 percent stake in FIFA's commercial rights—including those for the World Cup—to private investors for approximately $4.2 billion.
UEFA lawyers claim the $4.2 billion valuation was a “fraudulently off-market price” promoted by Infantino for his own benefit. To support the potential Swiss proceedings, UEFA has filed requests in US courts, including in Manhattan and Florida, to obtain evidence and testimony from FIFA entities and the New York-based investment fund Thrive Capital Management, founded by Joshua Kushner.
While FIFA has officially withdrawn the FFE proposal following intense backlash, UEFA has only provisionally suspended its threat to boycott FIFA competitions, demanding written assurances that such a scheme will never be repeated. The controversy has led several national federations, including those of Italy and Romania, to withdraw their support for Infantino's re-election. Conversely, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation has expressed support for FIFA's leadership and welcomed the abandonment of the proposal.
