South American football updates: Copa América 2028 and Bolivia's match planning

The 2028 Copa América is being planned by CONMEBOL to take place between June and July 2028. The tournament is expected to feature 16 teams, comprising 10 CONMEBOL members and 6 CONCACAF members, though there is potential to expand the field to 20 teams. While Ecuador is the traditional host by rotation, economic and social factors have led to speculation that the United States may host the event again.

In preparation for the 2030 World Cup qualifiers, the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF) is planning up to six friendly matches for the Bolivian national team between November 2024 and June 2027. The FBF has received invitations to play against teams from South America, such as Peru and Chile, as well as opponents from Asia. Many of these matches are expected to be held abroad, including in the United States, though the federation is considering hosting at least one match in Bolivia.
