Global housing initiatives expand through subsidies and urban development
Various regional and national governments are implementing diverse strategies to address housing shortages and urban development.
In Spain, the Agency for Housing and Rehabilitation of Andalusia (AVRA) has announced the auction of 265 properties, including residential, industrial, and commercial spaces, with a starting value of 20.72 million euros. Additionally, the state entity Casa 47 is preparing to mobilize approximately 400 million euros in subsidies to encourage private developers to build affordable rental housing on state-owned land. In Madrid, the city council is expanding protected housing capacity by 18,400 units and launching the MADRIDdbp platform to automate urban licensing through digital technologies.
In South America, the government of Entre Ríos, Argentina, is tendering a housing complex in Paraná with a budget exceeding 2.99 billion pesos. In the Dominican Republic, the Ciudad Juan Bosch project has expanded to 16,800 homes, with 3.6 billion pesos reinvested into infrastructure.
In Uruguay, Mevir is planning housing interventions in the Salto department for 2026 and 2027, focusing on rural areas. Meanwhile, in Chile, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) is progressing with the construction of 576 apartments in Arica and working to restart stalled bridge projects in the Gran Concepción area.
