United States defeats Peru 4-1 in Orlando friendly
The United States men's national team defeated Peru 4-1 in an international friendly at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando. The match marked a significant transition for the USMNT under manager Mauricio Pochettino, who fielded a heavily revamped squad featuring 11 debutants.
Justin Ellis opened the scoring for the United States in the fourth minute, followed by a Gianluca Lapadula equalizer for Peru in the 15th minute. The Americans regained control in the second half through a Malik Tillman penalty, a goal by 18-year-old Julian Hall, and a late strike from Sebastian Berhalter.
One of the most notable moments was the debut of 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan, who became the youngest player to start for the USMNT since Freddy Adu in 2006. The victory serves as a starting point for the team's new cycle following their exit from the 2026 World Cup.
Peru, managed by Mano Menezes, will continue their tour with a match against Mexico in New Jersey.
