South American nations advance bioceanic trade corridors

South American nations are advancing major infrastructure initiatives to create bioceanic corridors connecting Atlantic and Pacific markets.

The Bolivian-Paraguayan Chamber of Commerce and Industry has presented ‘Proyecto Ñemopeteï’, a proposed 1,222-kilometer international route. With an estimated investment of USD 1.3 billion, the project aims to connect Santa Cruz, Bolivia, with Brazil and Paraguay. The initiative seeks to establish a strategic logistics hub for agricultural products from the Brazilian Midwest, facilitating trade toward Asian markets.

Simultaneously, Peru is working through ProInversión to develop the ‘Eje Transversal Sur’ (South Transversal Axis). This strategy focuses on transforming the Peruvian regions of Madre de Dios and Puno into logistics nodes connecting Brazilian states like Acre, Rondônia, and Mato Grosso to Peruvian Pacific ports such as Matarani, San Juan de Marcona, and Ilo. Key supporting projects include a USD 99 million electrical link and a USD 37 million fixed internet network for the Peruvian jungle region.
