South American nations seek unified cruise tourism strategy

Tourism authorities from Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile are advocating for a unified strategy to promote South America as a single cruise destination. This initiative was a central theme at the 11th Regional Cruise Meeting held in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

Uruguayan Minister of Tourism Pablo Menoni emphasized that the region should not be viewed as a collection of individual ports, stating, “Nobody saves themselves alone here,” to highlight the importance of a collective international presence. Brazil's Minister of Tourism, Gustavo Costa Feliciano, supported the move, noting that combined itineraries would improve tourist flow between nations. He also noted expected growth for the upcoming season, including the debut of the cruise line Corazul Cruceros in Brazil.

Discussions also addressed technical and operational aspects, such as the necessity of robust port infrastructure to attract ships, as noted by Uruguay's National Port Administration. Other topics included managing weather challenges off the coast of Punta del Este, sustainable port-city integration, and the application of artificial intelligence in talent development.
