Colombia's Canal del Dique project stays on schedule, pre‑operational phase progresses
The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) confirmed that the Canal del Dique project has experienced no suspension and is advancing according to its contractual schedule. The pre‑operational phase, lasting 45 months, has been completed, enabling the transit of more than 3,500 vessels. Protective works include reinforcement of over 120 km of dikes and dredging of approximately 2.5 million m³ of sediment. The environmental impact study is 65 % complete. The next step is the construction phase, planned for 51 months, which will feature two major complexes with locks and gates at Calamar and Puerto Badel and 34 minor works along the canal’s area of influence.
ANI president Óscar Torres emphasized that the project remains on track and that all preparatory activities have been fulfilled to guarantee operational readiness before construction begins.
