South American regions promote tourism and sustainable development
In celebration of World Tourism Day, various regions in South America are highlighting their local tourism potential and international recognitions.
In El Alto, Bolivia, the municipality is promoting new tourist routes in Alto Milluni. The community offers two primary paths: the Q’utaña Route, which features views of the Huayna Potosí, Chacaltaya, and Illimani mountains alongside local lagoons, and the ‘Miner por un Día’ (Miner for a Day) route, which includes visits to a metallurgical museum and mine interiors. Local authorities aim to attract national and international investment through these cultural and natural offerings.
In Chile, the commune of Alto Biobío is celebrating its recognition as a global destination for excellence in sustainable tourism. The locality of Ralco was awarded the UN ‘Best Tourism Villages’ prize, selected from over 260 candidates across 60 countries. The award recognizes the preservation of Mapuche Pewenche ancestral traditions and a pastoral economy centered on transhumance, highlighting the region's commitment to sustainable development.
