South American UFO sightings of 1978 revisited
On September 23, 1978, two significant alleged UFO encounters occurred in South America, separated by over a thousand kilometers.
In Santiago, Chile, businessman Alejandro Hernández and his son Robinson reported being inside a vehicle that was lifted from the ground by a mysterious, zigzagging light emitting yellow and red colors. This event is considered one of the most well-known alleged abduction cases in Chilean ufology.
Simultaneously, in Argentina during the Vuelta a la América del Sur rally, Chilean pilots Carlos Acevedo and Miguel Ángel Moya reported a similar incident. While driving from Viedma toward Bahía Blanca, they claimed an intense white light invaded their vehicle, causing them to feel as though the car was being lifted. The pilots reported a loss of spatial and temporal awareness, later finding themselves facing the opposite direction with an empty fuel tank despite having recently refueled.
Recently recovered police documents from the 1978 report are being presented by researchers, including Andrea Pérez Simondini of SEFORA, to provide new details on the pilots' experience.
