Heavy Rains Bring Relief to Pakistan and India After Heatwave

Heavy rains and strong winds swept through Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, breaking an intense heatwave. Flooding and water‑logging disrupted traffic, with flash floods reported in Mingora and the GT Road flooding in Haripur. The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that intermittent rain could continue through June 20, and district administrations were placed on alert.

In India, the India Meteorological Department forecast light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across the Delhi‑National Capital Region (NCR) from June 18 to June 21. The rain and winds lowered temperatures, keeping maximums below 40 °C and providing relief from the summer heat. Forecasts indicated gusts up to 60 km/h and a gradual rise in temperatures after June 21. Both countries experienced a notable drop in temperature and improved conditions compared with the preceding heatwave.

The concurrent weather events underline a regional shift toward cooler, wetter conditions as monsoon influences begin to affect northwest India and northern Pakistan.
