India GDP growth forecasts raised by global agencies to approximately 7%

Multiple global financial institutions have raised their GDP growth forecasts for India for the 2026-27 fiscal year. S&P Global Ratings and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) both increased their projections to 7%, while the OECD raised its forecast to 7.1%. Fitch Ratings revised its outlook upward to 6.9%. These upgrades are attributed to robust industrial activity, strong government investment, and resilient domestic demand despite external geopolitical shocks.

In addition to GDP growth, the World Economic Forum's Chief Economists' Outlook survey identified India as having the strongest growth outlook globally. While the economic outlook is positive, S&P Global Ratings anticipates that the Reserve Bank of India may raise interest rates by 25 basis points during the fiscal year due to inflationary pressures.

On the domestic front, the Retailers Association of India reported that same-store retail spending in India grew by 9.6% year-on-year in August, signaling a broad-based recovery ahead of the festive season. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee has faced depreciation, falling 13.1% over the past 18 months, though the Reserve Bank of India suggests this may be a temporary phenomenon as the country's external position strengthens.
