South Australia may delay 100 per cent renewable target

South Australian Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis has suggested that the state may miss its target of reaching 100 per cent net renewables by the end of 2027. While expressing confidence that the goal remains achievable, Koutsantonis indicated that a delay of one or two years would not significantly impact the state's energy agenda.

The announcement coincided with progress on major infrastructure projects, including a sod-turning ceremony for the 288 MW Palmer wind project and the commencement of construction for the 346 MW Goyder North wind project and an accompanying large-scale battery.

South Australia currently maintains a renewable energy share of approximately 70-75 per cent, relying on wind, solar, and battery storage alongside legacy gas generators. The 100 per cent net renewable target was originally established by a previous state government.
