South Australia opens new heavy vehicle rest areas
The Australian and South Australian governments have completed the A$4.25 million Stuart Highway Rest Areas project, establishing new facilities to improve road safety and freight productivity in the state's far north.
The project includes a new heavy vehicle rest area at Pimba on the Olympic Dam Highway, located adjacent to Spud’s Roadhouse, and an upgraded facility at Arcoona on the Stuart Highway. Both sites are designed to help drivers manage fatigue by providing safe places to pull over.
The Pimba site features new pavement and improved drainage, while the Arcoona stop has been enhanced with access improvements, a sealed parking area, and new amenities including a shelter with seating. Both locations can accommodate up to four triple road trains simultaneously and offer separate parking for light vehicles.
