South Australia Records Highest Annual Home Approvals in Over 40 Years

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that 15,211 dwellings were approved in South Australia over the 12 months to June 2026, the highest annual total since 1985. June alone saw 1,310 approvals, 17 % above the state’s four‑year monthly average. The strong pipeline follows a record 14,130 homes completed in the year to March 2026.

Acting Premier Kyam Maher said the figures show “a genuine pipeline of housing activity” and highlighted the state’s Housing Roadmap and election‑platform investments. Housing and Urban Development Minister Nick Champion pointed to faster code amendments and a simpler land‑division process as drivers of the surge.

The government’s long‑term housing strategy targets 13,500 completed homes each year, with approvals viewed as a key indicator of future supply and a response to the national housing crisis.
