Pennsylvania measles cases surpass 900 as outbreak spreads

Pennsylvania is experiencing a significant measles outbreak, with the total number of confirmed cases surpassing 900 across 39 counties. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 903 cases as of the latest update, marking one of the state's most severe resurgences in decades.

Lancaster County has recorded the highest number of infections with 363 cases, followed by Mifflin County with 105. The outbreak has also led to 176 hospitalizations and four reported deaths. The fatalities include two infants in Lancaster County and two unvaccinated adults in Jefferson and Mifflin counties.

Data indicates that the vast majority of those infected were not fully vaccinated; fewer than 1% of confirmed cases occurred in individuals who had received the MMR vaccine. Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that measles cases in the United States have exceeded 3,600 in 2026.
