Literary season 2026: Joël Dicker signs Prime Video deal
The 2026 literary season is marked by significant shifts in how authors achieve success. Swiss novelist Joël Dicker has signed a global exclusivity deal with Prime Video to adapt his entire catalog into series, a move typically reserved for major American showrunners. One of the first projects, ‘Un Animal Sauvage’, is set to release in 2027.
In Canada, Souvankham Thammavongsa’s debut novel, ‘La couleur qui vous plaira’, has gained international acclaim, winning the 2025 Gluzer Prize and being named one of the New York Times’ best novels of 2025.
The traditional awards circuit is also in full swing, with major prizes including the Fnac Novel Prize, the Le Monde Literary Prize, and the upcoming Goncourt, Renaudot, and Médicis awards. This flurry of activity occurs amidst a challenging market where book sales saw declines in both 2025 and early 2026.
Additionally, the Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris will launch the inaugural Maillage festival in September. The event will feature various literary formats, including a dedicated space for Goncourt winner Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, focusing on themes of migration, memory, and identity.
