South Bohemian Region launches digital portal for museum collections
The South Bohemian Region has launched a new public portal, jihoceskesbirky.cz, to provide centralized access to thousands of digitized collection items from regional museums and galleries. The platform allows users to view archaeological finds, historical weapons, folk costumes, artworks, and natural history exhibits from the comfort of their homes.
The portal integrates digital collections from several institutions, including the South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice, Alšova Jihočeská galerie, the Regional Museum in Český Krumlov, the Prácheň Museum in Písek, the Museum of Central South Bohemia in Strakonice, and the Museum of Jindřichův Hradec.
Lucie Kozlová, the Deputy Governor of the South Bohemian Region for Culture, stated that the project aims to open the doors of regional repositories to the public, as only a fraction of these rich collections can be displayed in physical exhibitions at any given time. The website is free to use and does not require registration, offering detailed photographs and expert information regarding the history and context of each item.
