South Bohemian Region updates school capacities and accessibility

The 2026/2027 school year in the South Bohemian Region will see thousands of students entering various educational levels. Approximately 21,000 children will attend nursery schools, 60,000 will enroll in primary schools, and 32,000 will attend secondary schools. While nursery school enrollment is expected to decrease by about 4%, primary and secondary school numbers remain relatively stable with a decline of less than 1%.

To meet labor market demands, several secondary schools are introducing new fields of study, including mechanical engineering, pharmaceutical assistance, and social pedagogy. Some institutions, such as the Secondary School of Communications and Informatics in Tábor, are also increasing their student capacities.

In response to accessibility challenges, a new database is being developed to assist families of children with disabilities. The initiative, a collaboration between the 'Výtahy do škol' project and the Czech Association of Paraplegics (CZEPA), aims to map barrier-free schools. The database currently includes information on over 500 schools, including 45 in South Bohemia, allowing parents to filter by school type and location to better navigate educational options for children with mobility needs.
