South Carolina football to miss key starters in season opener

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer confirmed that key starters Dylan Stewarth and Jacarrius Peak will miss the Gamecocks’ 2026 season opener against Kent State.

Stewarth, an All-American defensive end, is sidelined due to back issues, while transfer offensive tackle Jacarrius Peak is recovering from knee injuries sustained in February. Beamer noted that while both players are ramping up their participation in practice, they are not yet ready for game action. Beamer indicated that Stewarth should be cleared for contact soon.

The Gamecocks begin their campaign at Williams-Brice Stadium following a 4-8 season in 2025. The early schedule includes matchups against Kent State and Towson before entering conference play against Mississippi State in Week 3.
