South Carolina Gamecocks sign defensive back Ethan Johnson

The University of South Carolina football team has announced the signing of defensive back Ethan Johnson. A fifth-year senior from Appalachian State, Johnson is immediately eligible and can begin practicing with the team ahead of the 2026 season opener against Kent State.

Johnson brings significant experience to the Gamecocks, having played 47 games and recorded 141 career tackles during his time with the Mountaineers. He was an All-Sun Belt performer in both 2023 and 2025.

As the program prepares for the 2026 season, head coach Shane Beamer faces a pivotal year following a 4-8 finish in 2025. Despite recent struggles, analysts suggest reasons for optimism, citing the development of key players such as quarterback LaNorris Sellers and EDGE defender Dylan Stewart.
