South Carolina holds special Republican Senate primary to replace Lindsey Graham

South Carolina Republicans will vote on Tuesday, Aug. 11, in a special primary election to select a nominee for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham. The field includes ten candidates, notably Darline Graham—the late senator's sister and current temporary appointee—who has received an endorsement from President Donald Trump. Other prominent contenders include U.S. Representatives Russell Fry and Ralph Norman, and former Governor Mark Sanford.

If no candidate secures more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff election will be held on Aug. 25. The eventual Republican nominee will face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in the November general election. The race is viewed as a test of political legacy and the continued influence of Donald Trump's endorsements within the state.
