South Carolina indicts 31 people in cartel-linked drug trafficking ring

A state grand jury in South Carolina has indicted 31 individuals in connection with a massive drug-trafficking network linked to Mexican cartels. The investigation, known as ‘Operation Last Stand,’ targeted a pipeline that moved narcotics, including cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine, from the southern border into the South Carolina Lowcountry.

The operation originated from investigations into unauthorized nightclubs in the Charleston area, which authorities identified as hubs for narcotics trafficking, prostitution, and gang violence. Law enforcement actions included a significant raid in North Charleston in February and subsequent operations across South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, and Florida.

In addition to drug trafficking, the indictments include charges related to firearms offenses and prostitution. Authorities reported the seizure of over 30 firearms, including machine guns, and the rescue of human trafficking victims, including one juvenile. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver announced the indictments, noting the network's ties to violent gangs and designated foreign terrorist organizations.
