South Carolina has been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 women's basketball poll. Head coach Dawn Staley's team received 23 first-place votes from a 31-member national media panel.

UConn follows in second place, marking the third consecutive year that South Carolina and UConn have occupied the top two spots in the preseason poll. Southern California (USC) is ranked third, followed by Duke and Michigan in the top five.

Coach Staley noted that while the ranking provides a sense of respect for the players, it also brings significant pressure. The Gamecocks face a challenging nonconference schedule, including matchups against ranked opponents UConn, USC, and Duke within the first month of the season.
