Darline Graham wins South Carolina GOP Senate runoff

Darline Graham has won the Republican runoff election for the South Carolina Senate seat, securing the nomination to replace her late brother, Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham, who was appointed by Governor Henry McMaster to fill the vacancy following Lindsey Graham’s death in July, defeated Representative Ralph Norman in the special primary runoff.

Graham secured approximately 52.5% of the vote, while Norman received roughly 47.6%. The runoff was necessitated after neither candidate achieved a majority in the initial August 11 primary. The campaign was heavily influenced by President Donald Trump, who endorsed Graham and actively campaigned for her, including hosting a rally in Myrtle Beach. Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., spent over $827,000 on voter outreach to support her candidacy.

During the campaign, Graham faced scrutiny regarding her political experience and her comments during a debate where she admitted she was “not that informed on national security.” In the November general election, she will face the Democratic nominee, Dr. Annie Andrews. The seat is widely considered to be in solid Republican hands.
