South Carolina search for missing five-year-old ends in tragedy

A massive search operation in South Carolina's Pee Dee region has ended in tragedy following the death of five-year-old Sailor Hayes. The young girl, who was non-verbal, disappeared from a vacation rental home after traveling from Virginia with her family.

An extensive search effort involved hundreds of police officers, rescuers, and local residents. The operation utilized helicopters, drones, diving teams, K-9 units, and Coast Guard vessels. Searchers even employed unconventional methods, such as using an ice cream truck to play children's music in hopes of attracting the girl to a hiding spot.

Despite the deployment of specialized equipment to track a device attached to the girl's ankle, her body was ultimately discovered in a water canal.
