South Carolina woman denied bond after alleged stabbing of Lyft driver

A judge denied bond for Naziyha Weatherall in Greenville County, South Carolina, following an April 22 incident in which she allegedly stabbed a Lyft driver 11 times and carjacked his vehicle.

Weatherall faces charges of attempted murder, carjacking, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. During a bond hearing, prosecutors described the incident as a “frightening factual scenario” and argued that the defendant poses a serious threat to public safety.

Weatherall’s defense attorney argued that the defendant was experiencing an acute psychiatric emergency and a severe mental health crisis at the time of the attack, noting she had no prior criminal record. The driver’s wife appeared in court on his behalf, stating that the emotional trauma of the assault prevented him from attending.
