Midwest Heat Wave Sparks Severe Storm Risk and Heat Advisories

Heat indexes across the Midwest are climbing to dangerous levels, with forecasts of up to 110 °F in parts of Missouri, 105 °F in Iowa and South Dakota, and 103 °F in northern Kansas. Heat advisories remain in effect for Monday and Tuesday, warning of heat‑related illnesses and urging precautions such as hydration and checking on vulnerable residents.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed northeast Missouri under a slight‑risk of severe weather, issuing Tornado Watch 501 for parts of Wisconsin and noting a 15‑40 % chance of scattered thunderstorms overnight. Forecasters expect damaging wind gusts, large hail and isolated tornadoes as storms move from northern Missouri into southern Iowa. Smoke from Canada and the northern United States is also expected to drift southward, adding hazy conditions to the region.
