SEDC ordered to relocate operations from Abuja to South-East

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), has directed the agency to relocate its operations from Abuja to the South-East region. During an oversight visit to Enugu State, Kalu expressed satisfaction with the progress of the commission’s headquarters project and inspected facilities provided by the Enugu State Government.

SEDC Managing Director Mark Okoye outlined strategic plans to accelerate regional growth, including proposed gas pipeline and railway projects. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah also urged the commission to prioritize a regional gas pipeline and an inter-state railway network to stimulate industrialization and connectivity across the five South-East states.

The committee emphasized that the commission must ensure its interventions reach grassroots communities to demonstrate tangible impact. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to Enugu in December to further assess the progress of the headquarters and the commission’s operational readiness.
