South East Development Commission launches 200-hectare farm in Enugu

The South East Development Commission (SEDC) has launched a 200-hectare integrated model farm in Nomeh Unateze, located in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. Part of the South East Agro-Development Programme, the project is designed as a regional pilot that can be replicated across the five states of the South East region.

The facility will integrate multiple agricultural sectors, including dairy, poultry, fisheries, greenhouse cultivation, fodder production, and agro-processing. It also aims to incorporate mechanisation, renewable energy, and practical training in modern farming practices. The initiative is intended to connect smallholder farmers to technical support, inputs, and markets through an out-grower programme.

When fully operational, the project is projected to generate more than 1,000 direct jobs. The scheme aims to strengthen agricultural value chains and support the Federal Government’s objectives regarding food security and economic diversification. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Enugu State Government.
