South East Development Commission to launch 15 agromechanisation projects

The South East Development Commission (SEDC) has announced plans to launch 15 agromechanisation projects across the South East region of Nigeria to revitalize the area's agricultural economy. The initiative aims to replicate the agro-industrial growth seen in the former Eastern Region between 1954 and 1964.

In partnership with state governments, the commission will implement three projects in each of the senatorial zones within Enugu, Abia, Imo, Anambra, and Ebonyi states. The rollout will begin in Enugu State, with specific projects identified in the Nomeh area of Nkanu East, Elugwu Akwu in Oji River, and Nkpologwu in Uzo Uwani.

According to Dr. Clifford Ogbede, Executive Director of Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Rural Development at the SEDC, these projects are designed to create direct and indirect job opportunities, attract local and foreign investment, and encourage youth participation in agriculture. The commission also intends to provide opportunities for the Igbo diaspora to contribute to the region's reconstruction.
