South Florida faces flooding from king tides and heavy rain

South Florida is experiencing significant coastal flooding due to the seasonal king tides combined with heavy rainfall and strong winds. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, noting that water levels can reach 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 inches) on certain roads.

Key affected areas include Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Flagler Road in Palm Beach County, and several vulnerable routes in Fort Lauderdale, such as A1A and Sunrise Boulevard. High tides are expected to peak during morning hours, increasing the risk of moderate to major coastal flooding.

In addition to rising tides, wind gusts between 25 and 40 mph are expected, which may cause trees to fall and create dangerous rip currents along Atlantic beaches. Meteorologists advise residents to avoid flooded streets and warn swimmers to stay out of the water due to hazardous maritime conditions.
