South Florida faces heavy rain and flood risks through Monday
South Florida is bracing for a period of heavy rainfall and potential flooding through Monday. A stationary front carrying tropical moisture is expected to bring significant precipitation to Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
Forecasts indicate that 3 to 5 inches of rain could fall over the course of the weekend. Saturday is expected to see scattered to widespread storms, with some areas potentially receiving 2 to 4 inches of rain within a 24-hour period. Sunday carries the highest risk, with a 90% chance of rain and the potential for localized flooding and wind gusts reaching 30 mph or more.
Prior to the storms, high temperatures and humidity are expected to drive heat indices into the 90s and 100s. The weather pattern is being driven by a decaying stationary front combined with high pressure over the peninsula.
