South Florida stuns Army 28-24 with late fourth-quarter rally

South Florida defeated Army 28-24 at Michie Stadium in an American Conference opener on Saturday. The Bulls overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. was central to the win, accounting for all four of South Florida's touchdowns. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 239 yards and added 45 rushing yards. The decisive play occurred with 19 seconds remaining, when Van Buren threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Porter on fourth-and-6.

Army held a 14-7 lead at halftime following touchdown passes from Cale Hellums to Zach Mundell and Godspower Nwawuihe. The Black Knights later extended their lead through a field goal and a 10-yard touchdown run by Nwawuihe, but the late South Florida rally ultimately decided the game. South Florida moves to 2-0 on the season, while Army falls to 1-1.
