South Gas Interconnection to bolster Bosnia and Herzegovina energy security

The South Gas Interconnection project is being positioned as a strategic driver for the energy security and economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the Central Business Forum in Vitez, officials emphasized that the project would connect Bosnia and Herzegovina to the gas infrastructure of Croatia, providing access to the broader European energy market.

Marinko Čavara, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated that diversifying supply routes is essential to reduce vulnerability and increase political stability. He noted that a more reliable gas source could lower production costs, boost competitiveness, and attract new investments.

Mirza Ustamujić, CEO of Energoinvest, suggested that the interconnection could allow Bosnia and Herzegovina to become an energy hub for Southeast Europe. He highlighted that gas can provide stability during the transition from coal to renewable energy sources, such as hydro, solar, and wind, while creating opportunities for domestic engineering and international partnerships.
