South Holland launches regional nature and community projects

Several regional development initiatives are underway in South Holland to enhance nature, recreation, and community welfare.

Under the Regio Deal Waarden van het Groene Hart, the Bodegraven-Reeuwijk municipality has secured funding for two specific projects. The first, the Bodegraafse Bos, aims to transform the forest area into a vibrant hub for nature and recreation, featuring a food forest, a nature playground, and a pumptrack. The second project, ‘Bij tante Jo’, is a community initiative by Stichting Welzijn Groene Hart designed to provide a low-threshold meeting place and support for seniors.

In a separate regional effort, eight organizations—including the provinces of Zuid-Holland, Staatsbosbeheer, and the National Park Hollandse Duinen—have signed the ‘Mient Groen’ covenant. This partnership focuses on developing a green corridor between the North Sea coast and the Groene Hart. The initiative seeks to balance the growing demand for local recreation and green space caused by residential developments in Katwijk and Wassenaar with the protection of vulnerable Natura 2000 areas.
