South Iceland Health Inspection to close amid restructuring
The South Iceland Health Inspection (Heilbrigðiseftirlit Suðurlands) is preparing for closure following administrative changes scheduled for the beginning of next year. The Health Committee of South Iceland has initiated the process to terminate staff contracts and end the office's lease.
These changes stem from the creation of a new state agency, Stofnun atvinnuveganna, which will absorb responsibilities previously held by the Food and Veterinary Authority, the Directorate of Fisheries, and the Price Bureau, as well as the duties of the local health inspection.
The Health Committee emphasized the importance of utilizing the existing expertise and local knowledge of the current staff during this transition. The Board of the Association of South Iceland Municipalities has also met to discuss the matter, stressing the need for a professional transition for the employees involved.
