South Jersey winter forecasts show conflicting predictions
Weather almanacs have issued differing predictions for the 2026-27 winter season in South Jersey and the broader Northeast.
The Farmers’ Almanac predicts a season of “snow, sleet, and surprises,” warning of a difficult mix of rain, ice, and heavy, wet snow. This forecast suggests that temperatures hovering near freezing could lead to significant icy conditions depending on storm tracks.
In contrast, The Old Farmer’s Almanac anticipates a milder winter for the Atlantic Corridor, including the South Jersey region, with snowfall levels expected to be slightly below normal. However, it notes that the southern portion of the Northeast may experience colder and snowier conditions.
Both forecasts are monitoring a strong El Niño pattern, though experts note that ocean temperatures, the polar vortex, and other atmospheric factors will ultimately determine the season's severity.
