South Kalimantan advances digital integration and economic diversification
The South Kalimantan Provincial Government is implementing several strategic initiatives to modernize regional management and diversify the local economy. To improve governance, the provincial government is pushing for the development of integrated digital systems across all regional apparatus units (SKPD). This effort aims to regulate information technology development and ensure that digital applications are interconnected rather than operating in isolation.
Regarding environmental management, officials warned that the capacity of existing final disposal sites (TPAS) in South Kalimantan is projected to be exhausted by 2028. This limitation has prompted a call to shift away from the traditional “collect, transport, and dump” model toward a more integrated and sustainable waste management system that addresses infrastructure, public health, and urban planning.
Additionally, the province is seeking to reduce its economic dependence on natural resources by promoting the creative economy. Through initiatives like the “Banua Kreatif Goes to Campus 2026” program, the government is encouraging the younger generation to explore subsectors such as culinary arts, fashion, design, and digital applications as new drivers of regional economic growth.
