South Korea advances AI in public health and medical research

Kyung Hee Medical Center hosted the second Medical AI Colloquium on July 23, bringing together hospital leaders, university scholars and international development partners to discuss public‑oriented AI use. Organisers emphasized AI that supports clinicians while expanding access for underserved populations and developing‑country health systems, highlighting multi‑agent systems that reduce error and keep final decisions with doctors.

Meanwhile, Korean health‑tech firm Huré Positive began rolling out its AI chronic‑disease management platform, BalanceAI, at public health centers in Daegu, Gyeongbuk and Chungnam. Integrated with the Korea Health Promotion Development Institute’s Chaum Health platform, the pilot will automate routine tasks, offer personalized health guidance, and lower staff workload. Backed by a 2.01 billion‑won grant from the Health Industry Promotion Agency, the project aims to expand to more than 20 public health centers nationwide, with clinical support from Samsung Medical Center and Keimyung University Dong‑san Medical Center.
