South Korea allocates 3,000 NVIDIA B200 GPUs to elite AI research teams

South Korea is advancing its national AI foundation model project by providing high-performance computing resources to elite research teams. The Ministry of Science and ICT has selected Upstage, SK Telecom, and LG AI Research to enter the third stage of the project.

To accelerate the development of independent AI models, the government will provide approximately 3,000 NVIDIA B200 GPUs, allocating 1,000 units to each of the three selected teams. This follows a significant government effort to secure massive GPU infrastructure, including a previous acquisition of 260,000 units.

As the focus shifts from mere hardware acquisition to operational efficiency, new research initiatives like the GRIM-GPU project are emerging. Led by Innogrid, this project aims to develop technology for flexible GPU resource sharing and reconfiguration to minimize performance interference in diverse computing environments.
