South Korea and Czech Republic advance nuclear energy cooperation

South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan and Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček held the third Dukovany implementation review meeting via video conference. The discussions focused on ensuring the Dukovany nuclear power plant project remains on schedule and addressing potential regulatory hurdles posed by the EU Industrial Acceleration Act.

Minister Kim expressed concerns that the EU legislation could disproportionately restrict non-EU countries from participating in the regional nuclear market. He emphasized the necessity of collaborating with established supply chains, such as South Korea’s, to meet Europe’s growing energy demands.

Looking ahead, the two nations plan to hold a fourth implementation meeting in South Korea later this year. The talks also extended to potential future cooperation regarding the Temelín nuclear power plant units 3 and 4, with both sides noting the potential for synergy if the partnership continues beyond the Dukovany project.
