South Korea arrests protester over National Assembly election probe at Olympic Park

A 60‑year‑old man was detained and sent to the prosecution for obstructing the National Assembly’s special committee investigation of the June 3 local election ballot‑shortage scandal. Police said the man pushed officers and resisted a forced‑movement order at the handball stadium entrance in Seoul’s Olympic Park on 2 May, leading to his arrest. Earlier, a 40‑year‑old woman had also been arrested after verbally assaulting a police officer at the same site.

The Central Election Commission reported that the storage area for ballot boxes in the same venue has a blind‑spot: three fixed‑position CCTV cameras cover only part of the pathway, leaving sections of the underground office unmonitored. About 380 ballot boxes and 2.47 million ballot papers remain sealed in the facility, and the commission said it will closely review security and management practices during a second on‑site investigation.
