South Korea begins seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has announced the schedule for the 2026-2027 national influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programs. Due to an early rise in influenza cases, the schedule has been adjusted to ensure timely protection for high-risk groups.

Influenza vaccinations for seniors will roll out sequentially: those aged 75 and older starting October 6, those aged 70-74 on October 12, and those aged 65-69 on October 15. Immunocompromised individuals and residents of infection-vulnerable facilities can receive the vaccine starting October 6 after consulting with medical professionals.

COVID-19 vaccinations for high-risk groups, including those aged 70 and older and the immunocompromised, will begin on October 12. The program utilizes Moderna and Pfizer XFG vaccines. For seniors aged 65 and older, it is possible to receive both the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines during a single visit to a medical facility.

Vaccinations are available at approximately 23,000 designated medical institutions and public health centers nationwide, regardless of the recipient's registered address. Children (6 months to 14 years) and pregnant women have been able to receive free influenza vaccinations since September 21.
