South Korea begins National Audit of Lee Jae-myung administration

The second-year National Audit of the Lee Jae-myung administration is scheduled to commence on the 6th. This session serves as the first comprehensive evaluation of the government's performance over the past year.

The ruling Democratic Party intends to focus on highlighting the achievements of major national projects and livelihood policies, framing the audit as a matter of responsibility and policy verification. Conversely, the opposition People Power Party plans to scrutinize perceived failures in areas such as real estate, national security, fiscal management, and personnel appointments.

Key points of contention include the conflict between Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae and the presidential office regarding Supreme Court justice nominations, personnel verification issues following the withdrawal of several ministerial candidates, and security concerns following landmine incidents in the DMZ. Regional issues, such as the relocation of the Gwangju military airport, are also expected to be prominent topics during the audit.
