South Korea begins registration for final current-format CSAT

Registration for the 2027 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) began on August 24 across 85 testing districts and high schools in South Korea. This year marks the final exam under the current system, which utilizes elective subjects for Korean and Mathematics. Starting from the 2028 academic year, the CSAT will undergo significant changes, including the abolition of elective subjects in favor of an integrated system for Korean, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science.

Due to these upcoming structural changes, there is increased interest in the number of “N-su” students (those retaking the exam) who may attempt to take the test one last time under the familiar format. In the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, early registration numbers showed a notable increase, with Gwangju seeing a 40% rise in applicants on the first day compared to last year.

Graduating high school students must register at their current schools, while graduates typically register at their former high schools. An online pre-entry system is available until September 3 to allow students to input information and pay fees via credit card or digital payments. In-person registration will continue for 10 days, excluding weekends, until September 4.
