South Korea coach Hong Myung‑bo banned from convenience store after World Cup loss

South Korean fans reacted to the national team’s 0‑1 defeat by South Africa in the 2026 World Cup group stage by posting a sign that reads “홍명보 출입금지” (Hong Myung‑bo banned entry) on a convenience‑store door. The sign, photographed on March 26, was attached to a discount flyer bearing the GS Retail logo. Netizens mocked the store owner’s anger, while some warned that the branding could mislead consumers into thinking the chain endorsed the protest.

GS Retail, the franchise operator, said it was still locating the store and verifying the facts. The incident reflects the disappointment and criticism aimed at Hong Myung‑bo after the team failed to qualify automatically for the knockout round.
