South Korea delivers first PKX-B Batch-II patrol craft to Navy

The Republic of Korea Navy has received the first PKX-B Batch-II fast patrol craft, also known as the Patrol Killer Medium Rocket (PKMR). The vessel was delivered by HJ Shipbuilding & Construction at its Yeongdo shipyard in Busan on August 14.

This next-generation program is designed to replace the aging Chamsuri-class patrol boats used since the 1970s and 1980s. The Batch-II vessels are intended to bolster coastal defense and protect the Northern Limit Line, a sensitive maritime area.

Compared to the previous Batch-I vessels, the Batch-II models feature upgraded combat systems that better integrate the 130 mm guided rocket system and 12.7 mm remote-controlled weapon systems. Technical improvements also include enhanced anti-jamming capabilities for electronic warfare, improved search radar, and an electro-optic tracking system optimized for cold-weather performance. The 44-meter craft is powered by waterjets capable of reaching speeds of 40 knots.
