South Korea develops framework for rural basic income program
The Presidential Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Affairs is refining the implementation plan and financial foundations for a rural basic income pilot program. Following the conclusion of the first phase of discussions, the committee's second phase is focusing on organizing research results and preparing regional policy forums to gather field feedback.
Research reports have examined various implementation scenarios, including the required budget and the feasibility of securing financial resources. Discussions have emphasized the need to consider local government financial conditions and the existing uses of potential funding sources to ensure stable operations.
In Jindo County, local authorities are actively campaigning to host the pilot project to combat regional extinction and stimulate the local economy. The county is conducting a series of briefing sessions across seven townships to build community consensus and gather resident opinions, which will be used to strengthen their application for the national program.
