South Korea election commission staff back transfer of voting duties to Ministry of the Interior

An internal survey of the National Election Commission of South Korea, conducted after the June 3 local‑election ballot shortage, found that 88.5% of participating staff support moving voting administration responsibilities to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. At the same time, 93.4% said the current early‑voting system needs to be reformed, with 41.4% favouring its outright abolition.

The results have intensified calls for a comprehensive overhaul of the election‑management system. Lawmaker Choi Bo‑yoon urged an extension of the parliamentary investigation and accountability measures, while the public‑officials union has denounced any effort to shift duties to local governments as unconstitutional.
