South Korea expands KFA presidential election electorate to over 10,000
The Korean Football Association (KFA) is planning to increase the size of its presidential election electorate from roughly 200 members to more than 10,000. The proposal, discussed by the K‑Football Innovation Committee, would add representatives from professional clubs, semi‑professional teams, universities and promotion‑relegation leagues.
The committee held its fourth meeting on 27 July at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, chaired by former international player Park Ji‑sung. It aims to finalise amendments to the Korean Sports Council’s member‑sport‑organization regulations by August, removing the current cap of 300 electors. The reforms also consider introducing electronic voting, including mobile voting, though budget implications remain under review.
The previous KFA president election in 2022 involved 192 electors, while the Korean Sports Council itself recently expanded its own voting body from 2,244 to 92,194 members, a 41‑fold increase. Discussions also covered strengthening the independence of the Football Power‑Strengthening Committee and improving the transparency of national‑team coach appointments.
